TYT Politics Reporter Jordan Chariton ( ) returns to northwestern Indiana and the industrial town of East Chicago, which is just across state lines from Chicago, IL. Residents were told that only their soil was poisoning their children, but now it turns out that the water and the air are contaminated as well. Local environmentalist Thomas Frank explains how this happened.

Article about Mike Pence cited in this piece

In a subsequent email, Thomas Frank said, " think this story and the toxic abuse that has been allowed to happen here in East Chicago is important for the country to see. I am glad the drinking water issue and infrastructure is broadening out. I am concerned that the solutions will include privatizing water through Public / Private Partnerships. We know in Indiana we need to replace our older water infrastructure at a cost of about $2.1 Billion dollars. I think both Holcomb and Trump see this as an pot of gold for corporations and a way to get people working on infrastructure on their terms."

East Chicago Lead Poisoning Playlist

A lead contamination tragedy that has been poisoning Indiana families for 45 years. The West Calumet Complex located in East Chicago, IN is being evacuated and demolished after the EPA found astronomical lead levels and released its findings to the town's first African American mayor, Anthony Copeland. Why did the federal, state, and local government sign off on building 340 low income housing units on the former site of 3 defunct lead factories? And, more importantly, who is going to step up to take care of these families, many of whom have small children with health issues due to lead and arsenic poisoning, now forced to find a new place to live?
