President Trump told Russian diplomats and NBC News that he fired Comey to ease pressure being caused by the investigation into his 2016 campaign's possible collusion with Russian Military Intelligence in efforts to swing the election in Trump's favor. Comey testified that he takes Trump at his word that this was his motivation, but said the president had lied when he offered other justifications, such as the FBI was "in disarray." Comey said it would be up to investigators and appointed special counsel Robert Mueller to decide if Trump is guilty of obstruction of justice and/or abuse of power.
