These left-wing and environmental groups aren't real charities. Charities don't target Canada's oil sands.
David Suzuki has benefited more than most. His foundation puts more than $9 million through its charitable status. Yet its website has a campaign in an upcoming BC referendum on a transit tax hike.
To call that charitable is stretching the meaning of the word too far.
