Why? To ingratiate themselves with the broadcaster? Maybe. But it's clearly a partisan attack on Stephen Harper, since the federal government ultimately controls the purse strings.
PS: What's going on between TVO and Kathleen Wynne right now is a lesson in the dangers of giving provincial politicians too much control over public broadcasting.
