Instead, Mulcair and Trudeau spent most of the evening taking shots at each other.
What we're starting to see develop is a fight for the votes on the left as the Liberals and the NDP have figured they have the best chance of stealing votes from each other.
One of the party's on the left has to go down. I predict we're in for a very interesting couple of weeks on the campaign trail.
