Sheila Gunn Reid of TheRebel.Media reports: New Liberal Environment and Climate Change Minister, Catherine McKenna, held a telephone press conference on Wednesday afternoon to explain her plans for Alberta.
She had just met with Alberta Environment Minister Shannon Phillips to map out their strategy to "unemploy" thousands more Albertans. I mean, stop climate change by using carbon pricing.
The conference kicked off like so many things environmentalist liberals do; with a healthy dose of hypocrisy. Our new environmentalist overlord was calling us all from the vehicle on the way to the airport. Must be a solar car and a wind powered plane.
McKenna kept saying she will move Alberta to a low carbon economy. Does she know what we do here?
What does that mean for Alberta? Well, more of the same. The same meaning layoffs. On the very day McKenna was here telling Albertans to abandon their own prosperity, TransCanada, Enmax and Enbridge were announcing another round of layoffs. And Vancouver based Teck Resources laid off 1000 people, including many in their Calgary office. Canadian Association of Oil-well Drilling Contractors says this will be the worst year Alberta has faced since the darkest days of Pierre Trudeau's National Energy Program in 1983. The CAODC predicts a decrease in oil-patch employment by over 57% in 2016. Real people are losing everything, and McKenna plans to make it all worse.
When we all have no jobs, no cars, no heat and no food, I guess that’s what McKenna will call a successful low carbon economy.
