Sheila Gunn Reid of TheRebel.Media reports:
Did you get your non-denominational holiday greeting card from the NDP? No?
Well me neither. But I know Mike Connolly was sending some out. Mine probably got lost in the mail.
Mike Connolly is the NDP MLA for Calgary Hawkwood. He’s one of those accidental MLAs that stumbled into power in that perfect storm of WRP betrayal and PCAA self-destruction last May. Connolly is a 21 year old student. And a touch immature, I’ll assume.
He sent a tweet out in the middle of December that said “Nothing like signing non-denominational holiday cards and becoming an active participant in the war on Christmas”
Ooooh, how edgy, Mike.
I think this is his attempt to poke fun at those Christians who do feel like society is secularizing Christmas. This is Connolly trying, and failing, to be ironic.
But it’s not ironic. And it’s not edgy. Christians are literally the safest faith group to make fun of. What will happen to you if you make fun of a Christian? Well, we might send an unsolicited prayer your way or maybe, if things get really bad, if things get too real, we might pull out the big guns and have a bake sale. The mainstream media didn’t even bat an eye at his comments.
This isn’t ironic, or edgy. It’s lazy and predictable and, honestly, cowardly.
Do you think Connolly would make fun of Ramadan? Or Diwali? And what do you think the outcry would be like if Wildrose leader Brian Jean had said the same thing about a Muslim holiday?
Or are Christians the low hanging fruit for leftists like Mike Connolly to make fun of?
