The Canada Border Services Agency is about to implement a new system for screening air passengers which harmonizes with the American system.
The Privacy Commissioner, Daniel Therrien, is worried that this could lead to racial and ethnic profiling.
I explain why I think his concerns are misplaced and suggest that if anything, getting better at zeroing in on certain patterns of behaviour generally exhibited by terrorists in addition to looking at a few broad categories, should result in less profiling, more success for our security services and improved safety for Canadians.
