SLATE INFORMATION: In September three men concerned in the murder of two policemen at Fairview made for a cave in the Kopjes near Johannesburg, where they were besieged by the Police. People flocked to the spot and watched events.

SLATE INFORMATION: Foster was the leader of the gang and tea was taken into the cave by his wife.

SLATE INFORMATION: Foster's sister was sent for and she carried the baby into safety.

SLATE INFORMATION: Shots were heard from inside the cave and developments were awaited, but Mrs. Foster had been murdered and the bandits committed suicide.

SLATE INFORMATION: Funeral of Gen. de la Rey.
SLATE INFORMATION: Whilst the police were watching for the bandits, who were known to be in a motor car, General de la Rey, a famous boer officer, was killed. His chauffeur failed to stop when called upon by the police and the resulting shots killed him. The funeral was made the occasion of a great sympathetic demonstration by Briton and Boer.
