1. President Joe Biden addressed the nation on the one-year anniversary of the coronavirus pandemic. In Biden’s speech outlined his plan to tackle the virus, including vaccines for all U.S. adults by May 1, allowing for July 4 family celebrations. Biden also sent a message to the world: America is coming back. The U.S. President will hold an event today at the White House to celebrate the passing of his $1.9 trillion COVID relief bill. Americans can expect to receive $1400 stimulus checks as early as next week.
2. NY Governor Andrew Cuomo faces impeachment. State lawmakers approved an impeachment probe into the sexual misconduct allegations made against Cuomo. A sixth woman came forward this week with a groping allegation against Cuomo. Pressure is mounting for the Cuomo to resign.
3. Jury selection continues in trial of Derek Chauvin, the former police officer who is on trial for the death of George Floyd. A judge reinstated a charge of third-degree murder against Chauvin. A third-degree murder sentence could mean up to 25 years in prison.
4. Myanmar’s junta charged deposed leader Aung San Suu Kyi with new bribery allegations. Myanmar’s military coup began on February 1. More than 2,000 people have been unlawfully detained since then and the U.N. estimates Myanmar’s death toll hit 70. The U.N. called for wide-spread sanctions.
5. A Netflix password-sharing crackdown is underway. The company is testing a new feature that will require some users to verify if they share a household with the account holder.
