1. The U.S. is struggling with a surge of children at the southern border with Mexico. Biden called on FEMA to provide transport and shelter. As the crisis at the border intensifies, President Biden and Vice President Harris will hit the road to sell the public on the $1.9 trillion rescue plan pushed through Congress. A first batch of $1,400 stimulus payments was processed Friday, with additional large batches of payments to be sent via direct deposits or through the mail as checks or debit cards in coming weeks.
2. Biden says he won't call on NY Governor Andrew Cuomo to resign amid allegations of sexual misconduct. Biden said he will wait for the outcome of the investigation to make a judgment. Over the weekend, media outlets reported that New York's vaccine czar, who is also an adviser to Cuomo, called officials to gauge their loyalty to Cuomo amid the ongoing sexual harassment investigation.
3. British Prime Minister Boris Johnson voiced deep concern over police conduct after women were arrested at a vigil in London for Sarah Everard, who was allegedly murdered by a police officer.
4. A poll showed half of male Republicans wouldn’t get vaccinated. On Sunday Dr. Anthony Fauci urged Donald Trump to appeal to his supporters, in the hopes that he can urge them to get COVID-19 vaccines.
5. Democrat Stacey Abrams is calling for the Senate to lift the filibuster from an election reform bill designed to lower voting barriers and make the U.S. political system more democratic.
