1. Donald Trump plans to launch his own social media platform in two to three months. Trump was banned from Twitter and Facebook.
2. Miami Beach officials extended an emergency 8 p.m. curfew for up to three weeks to help control maskless spring break crowds. Officials are worried about the threat of a resurgent coronavirus as crowds fill the streets of South Beach.
3. AstraZeneca vaccine was found to be 79% effective in a U.S. trial, with ‘no increased risk’ of blood clots. The study potentially paves the way for the vaccine's emergency authorization in the United States and bolsters confidence in the shot after numerous setbacks in Europe.
4. President Joe Biden said he planned to visit the border with Mexico “at some point” and his administration is working to ensure that potential migrants applied for asylum in their home countries. Asked what more could be done to convince migrant families to stop coming across the border, Biden told reporters: “A lot more.” Over the weekend DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas said that the ’border is closed' although the U.S. won't expel children.
5. Federal investigators have found evidence that would likely allow the government to file sedition charges against some of those involved in the deadly Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol, a Justice Department official told CBS’ “60 Minutes.” “I believe the facts do support those charges,” said acting U.S. Attorney Michael Sherwin for the District of Columbia. Capitol riot suspect George Tanios is due to appear in court. He is accused of assaulting police with a deadly weapon, after investigators said he sprayed at least three officers with an unidentified, but powerful, chemical agent. One of those officers, Brian Sicknick, was later rushed to a hospital and died the next day.
