They criticized Noboa’s plan to spend $80 million on a national referendum, accusing him of pressuring the Constitutional Court and failing to address urgent issues like unemployment, medicine shortages, and lack of school supplies.
On the same day, President Noboa led a pro-government march in Guayaquil, defending his security policies. Noboa has been fighting criminal gangs linked to drug trafficking since January 2024, with support from the United States. He blames these groups for a sustained rise in violent deaths this year.
