Venezuelan opposition leader Maria Corina Machado said she was confident the remnants of what she called a “criminal regime” would eventually be dismantled in the South American country and there would be an orderly transition to free elections.

Her remarks came after she gave President Trump her Nobel Peace Prize in Washington, in a bid to influence his efforts to shape her country's political future.

A White House official confirmed that Trump intends to keep the medal.
