In Sudan’s civil war two bitter enemies, the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Sudanese paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) are locked in a power struggle for control of Sudan’s future – and its wealth.
In October 2025, fighters from the RSF filmed themselves killing civilians while conquering the Darfur city of al-Fashir – as their commanders stood by. A team of Reuters journalists visited nearby refugee camps in Chad, on the border with Sudan, shortly after.
This Reuters documentary combines survivor testimony with open source investigative techniques. We analyzed hundreds of online videos to reconstruct the human rights abuses that happened during the RSF's final assault on al-Fashir.
