In this Wolff Responds, Prof. Wolff draws a historical parallel between the collapse of feudalism in the 14th century and the collapse of today's capitalism. The Bubonic plague, or Black Death was thought to be the cause of the collapse of the feudal system just as COVID-19 is considered to be the trigger for the current economic crisis. He warns us of the fantastic struggles we will face in the coming months and years for ever shrinking amounts of surplus.
