Today, Bloomberg is reporting that China will add 70 GW (70,000 MW) of new coal and gas-fired generation capacity this year. That comes on top of the 40GW that was added last year.

“The target comes as Beijing places more emphasis on energy security due to power shortages and volatile global fuel prices...Electricity demand is also forecast to rebound to growth of around 6 percent this year, up from 3.6 percent in 2022.”

This proves the Iron Law of Electricity: people businesses and countries will do whatever they have to do to get the electricity they need.
