During his address, Martin explained that African Americans "have to start thinking about black history as what is about to happen and that will happen and how will be contributors to making it possible."
He added, “We can only make that possible by virtue of our dollars, by virtue of our resources, by virtue of our relationships."
Martin implored those in attendance to understand how our actions today will impact us individually and collectively tomorrow saying, "We have the potential today to create new legacies — we have the potential today to build upon a greater and grander lineage by virtue of the actions that we take today."
