Steward explained that skyrocketing disparities in their local community sparked the creation of the Steward Speakers.
He said, "We were losing Black males, Black women far too soon and so we knew that we had to bring in some national thought leaders to dialogue with us -- not only just to talk ... but to develop a plan on action so that we could start addressing these issues that are impacting our community."
