12:38Now PlayingIn 2016, the Russian government and military, at the direction of President Vladimir Putin, launched an unprecedented attack on the US election. They spent millions of dollars on hackers and trolls who systematically tried to weaken Hillary Clinton and boost Donald Trump.
The existence of the Russian influence campaign was confirmed by top US intelligence agencies, which included the FBI, the CIA and the National Security Agency, as well as the Senate Intelligence Committee and the special counsel investigation led by Robert Mueller.
Despite the existence of Moscow's misinformation being confirmed people continue to subscribe to conspiracy theories. Trump and his Republican allies believe an alternate reality.

Malcolm Nance, a former naval intelligence officer and author of "The Plot to Destroy Democracy: How Putin and His Spies Are Undermining America and Dismantling the West" and the new book, "The Plot to Betray America" spoke with Roland Martin about the insidious threat conspiracy theories pose to the 2020 election.
