In 1994 Lamar Johnson was convicted of a murder that prosecutors now agree he had nothing to do with. The two men responsible for the crime have since confessed. He's spent more than half of his life in prison and efforts to have him released have failed.

Black DA's have come out in support of Johnson receiving a new trial as a result of the overwhelming evidence. Marilyn Mosby, Baltimore State's attorney spoke with Roland Martin during Monday's edition of #RolandMartinUnfiltered about the Johnson case and others like it where African Americans have been wrongly convicted.

In an op-ed released on Wednesday, titled "There is overwhelming evidence Lamar Johnson didn't commit murder. So why is he still behind bars?" Mosby and Chicago State's Attorney Kim Foxx explained why Johnson deserves a new trial.
