9:53Now PlayingMore than 500,000 children in the U.S. have tested positive for the coronavirus since the pandemic began, according to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). The group said children represented 9.8% of all COVID-19 cases in the U.S., where more than 6.3 million total cases have been reported, per a tally by Johns Hopkins University.
According to American Academy of Pediatrics and the Children's Hospital Association, 70,630 new child cases were reported from August 20th through September 3rd. Within two weeks, child cases increased 16 percent. The total number of cases are at least 513, 415. Children represent nearly 10 percent of all reported cases in the U.S. Child cases of coronavirus are likely underreported because the count relies state data that is inconsistently collected.
Dr. Dan Fagbuyi, Pediatric Emergency Medicine Specialist spoke with Roland Martin about this alarming increase of COVID-19 infections among the nation's children and shared his views on sending children back to school during the global pandemic.
