Georgia Congresswoman Lucy McBath who won a second term on election day has found the right mix of messaging to continuously grow her base in what has been a traditionally red state.
McBath spoke with Roland Martin about her big win, the upcoming Georgia runoffs, Republicans attacking Black voters and about her book, "Standing Our Ground: The Triumph of Faith Over Gun Violence: A Mother's Story."
As McBath secured her second term in Congress, news about the upcoming Georgia runoff election continued circulate in the headlines.
Republican Senator Kelly Loeffler is facing fire for soliciting campaign funds while speaking in the halls of Congress . This is potentially a violation of Senate ethics rules. Political groups have already spent or reserved more than $126 million to advertise for the 63-day campaign, with Republicans exceeding Democrats $77.2 million to $49.3 million.
Aside from advertising, another key component to campaigning is debating. However, Senator David Perdue has declined to debate Senate Candidate Jon Ossoff. Today Ossoff criticized Perdue saying that he is adding to the division we've seen for four years under the Trump administration and thinks it's time Perdue put his personal interest aside and start putting the people first.
This election is critical. The winners of these two races will determine who controls the Senate. Democratic control of the Senate is necessary to block Mitch McConnell's unwillingness to work with Democrats. Election Day is January 5th. Georgia voters have until December 7th to register and in person voting starts on December 14th.
