28:22Now PlayingA handful of Black owned media entities have banded together to launch a new Black Owned Media Coalition at the New Orleans City Council.
The conglomerate is comprised of Data News Weekly, the Louisiana Weekly, WBOK Radio station and the New Orleans Tribune.
In an effort to stop coddling companies that consistently ask to be featured in Black outlets but don't contribute to them financially, the Black Owned Media Coalition has asked the New Orleans Council to directly express the value of Black-owned media and its importance within the community.
Wendell Pierce, actor/activist and part owner of Equity Media LLC spoke with Roland Martin about the Black media coalition demanding their fair share of advertising dollars in New Orleans.
