29:38Now PlayingBlack Americans continue to have the lowest rate of homeownership compared to other racial groups. According to the U.S. Census Bureau. Just 47% of Black Americans own a home, while 76% of White Americans own homes. The gap between Black and White homeownership has increased. The Urban Institute found that the 30% difference between white and Black homeownership is larger than it was in the 1960s, when housing discrimination was legal.
John Hope Bryant is encouraging Black and brown people to prioritize owning a home.
As the biggest Black landlord in the country with over 700 properties in Atlanta and Florida. He wants you to rent from him, but at some point he also wants you to own a home.
Bryant spoke with Roland Martin about why he feels some people have it all wrong when it comes to not wanting to own a home.
