10:02Now PlayingThe former St. Paul police officer who let a police dog maul an unarmed Black man will spend six years in prison.
In June 2016, Brett Palkowitsch and other officers responded to a call about a large street fight and were looking for an "unidentified black male with dreadlocks and a white t-shirt" carrying a gun.
52-year-old Frank Amal Baker "fit the description." Soon after Baker was asked to get out of his car, the officer released the dog. Bodycam footage caught Palkowitsch brutally kicking and severely injuring Baker while the dog was mauling Baker.
Palkowitsch waived the right to appeal his conviction and offered a tearful apology for his actions to Baker and the St. Paul Police Department.
Baker had nothing to do with the reported incident.
