19:53Now PlayingThe 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals upholds a Mississippi voting law adopted by white supremacist leaders in 1890.
Simply put, the law attempts to disenfranchise Black residents for life. White Mississippi lawmakers have designated certain crimes that they believed Black people were more likely to commit as lifelong disenfranchising crimes. Even though the court's majority admitted law is "steeped in racism," it says the State's changes in the 132 years is enough to override its white supremacist's intentions.
Robert B. McDuff, an attorney for the Mississippi Center for Justice, is spoke with Roland Martin about the 5th Circuit U.S. Court of Appeals upholding the racist Jim Crow era voting law during Monday's edition of #rolandmartinunfiltered.
