In a letter, Harris county officials say they are concerned about the timing of the Texas Secretary of State and Attorney General's plan to send inspectors, election security trainers, and legal advisers to observe the election.
Harris County is the state's largest metropolitan area and a more democrat-leaning. With the changing demographics, Texas Republicans have made it harder to vote, and this move adds to the restrictive measures to intimidate and add doubt to voters' confidence.
The Justice Department has not responded to the Request.
Harris County attorney Christian D. Menefee, one of the signees spoke with Roland Martin during Friday's edition of Roland Martin Unfiltered about the request for federal election monitors.
