A group of Jacksonville pastors wants disciplinary action against Jacksonville Gang task force Sergeant Douglas Howell for racist and discriminatory social media posts.
In 2013 a Twitter account tied to Howell posted. "America's three biggest problems: Marijuana abuse, Marijuana abuse, and Black people." The Jacksonville sheriff's office launched an internal investigation on Monday. The department is looking into accusations that Howell was tweeting racially insensitive comments. Howell's social media account has made derogatory posts about Mexican people, the LGBTQ+ community, and anti Racism groups.
Democratic Jacksonville Sheriff candidate Lakeshia Burton responded to the news.
"I was appalled."
If confirmed to be Howell's tweets, he faces suspension and termination.
