Yesterday in a closed-door meeting, Biden told Senate Democrats he would not veto a Republican-led resolution blocking Washington, D.C.'s criminal code revisions, including reducing maximum criminal penalties for violent crimes like carjackings and expanding rights to jury trials for certain misdemeanor offenses.
Biden promised to take a more holistic approach to criminal justice reform because he supported the 1994 Crime Bill and its disproportionate impact on the Black Community; however, his current stance has changed and sparked debate between moderate and progressive democrats about dealing with crime.
