In this December 2021 surveillance video, Aqweel Khan runs over Cory Brown, a Black man, six times. Khan is serving time at the Alameda County Santa Rita Jail on charges of attempted homicide and assault with a deadly weapon.
Tuesday, Alameda County District Attorney's offices tacked on the hate crime charges after further evidence found that Khan vandalized Brown's car with racial slurs, made racist threats, and had previously attempted physical assault.
This is the second time Kahn has been charged with an assault and hate crime. In August 2021, Khan allegedly beat an Indian woman for speaking Hindi, punching her in the face until she lost consciousness.
