YouTube Description
as posted by the channelIn Mississippi, a federal judge says a restrictive new law that would penalize individuals who assist in absentee voting violates the Voting Rights Act.
U.S. District Judge blocked the law before this year's primaries and general election, suggesting the act of voting should provide "unfettered access to conscientious citizens."
The lawsuit was filed in June on behalf of Disability Rights Mississippi, the League of Women Voters of Mississippi, and three Mississippi residents arguing that the restrictions on absentee voting could disenfranchise voters who have disabilities and rely on help from people they trust.
Joshua Tom, the Legal Director for the ACLU in Mississippi spoke with Roland Martin about the important district court judge ruling.
