US District Judge Tanya Chutkan was randomly selected to preside over Trump's conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election trial.
Judge Chutkan, nominated to the bench by President Obama in 2014, is known for her tough stance on the Capitol rioters. Chutkan has sentenced at least 38 individuals convicted of Capitol riot-related crimes, with all 38 receiving prison sentences ranging from 10 days to over five years.
Chutkan ruled against Trump in the past, including in a separate Jan. 6 case where she rejected his request to block the release of documents to the House's Jan. 6 committee. She has clarified that
