Ogletree, who worked as a professor at Harvard Law School for over three decades, left an indelible impact on the legal profession and criminal justice system. He was known for his outstanding legal representation of high-profile clients, including Anita Hill and the 1921 Tulsa race riot survivors.
Ogletree founded the Charles Hamilton Houston Institute at Harvard to honor Charles Hamilton Houston, a 1922 Harvard Law graduate who worked to dismantle Jim Crow laws and spearheaded the legal strategy to end segregation in public schools.
His Contributions extended beyond the classroom as he moderated television programs like the State of the Black Union and participated in PBS broadcasts on topics ranging from ethics to race and the criminal justice system.
Ogletree was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in 2015 but continued to fight through the disease.
Charles Ogletree's passing is a significant loss for the legal community and those who benefited from his advocacy.
