Nelson Wells Jr. was arrested in China on drug charges. He was convicted and sentenced to death in 2014. That sentence was commuted to life in prison, which was reduced to 22 years without the benefit of time served.
His parents, Nelson, Sr. and Cynthia Nelson, have depleted their life savings to bring their son home.
