Brett McAlpin, a former Rankin County deputy, was one of six law enforcement officers who pleaded guilty to brutally assaulting Michael Jenkins and Eddie Parker.
U.S. District Judge Tom Lee sentenced McAlpin to 27.25 years in prison on March 21 and 15 years on state charges on April 10.
McAplin's attorneys say his client should have gotten less time than Hunter Elwood, who shot Jenkins in the mouth.
Elwood is serving 20 years.
