In the Ohio filing, attorneys say the 2023 law violates federal law because it restricts people with disabilities from having equal access to cast absentee ballots.
The DOJ is charged with enforcing the Voting Rights Act, which requires states to avoid discriminating against voters with disabilities.
The ACLU's lawsuit was filed on behalf of an Ohio resident who has muscular dystrophy, a disease that renders her unable to drive. She doesn't have an outgoing mailbox at her apartment, and her mother lives 30 minutes away and also has health issues.
