5:17Now PlayingBrett McAlpin, the highest-ranking member of the Rankin County "goon squad", currently serving over 27 years in prison for his involvement in the torture of two Black men last year, is seeking to have his sentence vacated.
According to documents filed Thursday in the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals, McAlpin is not looking to withdraw his guilty plea but contends that his sentencing was excessively harsh, arguing through his lawyers that it did not fairly reflect his role in the torture of Eddie Parker and Michael Jenkins.
