The settlement includes a record-setting $1.3 billion penalty to be paid to the U.S. Treasury Department’s Financial Crimes Enforcement Network. Additionally, TD Bank will pay $1.8 billion to the U.S. Justice Department and plead guilty as part of the resolution of a government investigation into the bank’s violations of the Bank Secrecy Act, which enabled money laundering operations.
