22:30Now PlayingConfusion continues as the twice impeached criminally convicted felon-in-chief rescinds the sweeping directive to freeze potentially trillions in loans, grants, and financial assistance.
According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the memo was rescinded, but the order remains in effect.
"This is NOT a rescission of the federal funding freeze. It is simply a rescission of the OMB memo. Why? To end any confusion created by the court's injunction. The President's EO's on federal funding remain in full force and effect, and will be rigorously implemented."
On Tuesday, U.S. District Judge Loren L. AliKhan issued a temporary hold on the freeze, citing the need for more time to consider the challenge and to issue a permanent ruling by Monday.
Additionally, another federal judge has expressed his intention to issue a new block on the freeze.
U.S. District Judge Jack McConnell noted that the attempt to rescind a "hugely ambiguous" order implementing the freeze is contradicted by Leavitt's statement.
If the freeze gets reinstated, funding for black cultural studies at HBCUs could be at risk, as these programs rely on federal funds.
