Right now, significant changes are coming. The 'Post Office' has been a pathway to the middle class for Black families since 1865, offering good-paying, stable jobs with benefits that weren't always available in the private sector.
But now, the USPS is facing major cuts.
Postmaster General Louis DeJoy just signed an agreement with Elon Musk's Department of Government Efficiency--yes, you heard that right--to help "fix" the Postal Service's finances.
But let's be clear: this isn't about fixing--it's about slashing.
Since DeJoy took over in 2020, 30,000 jobs have already been cut, and another 10,000 layoffs are coming next month.
And Black workers making up nearly 30% of USPS employees.
And here's the bigger picture--there's talk of privatizing the U-S-P-S entirely. That means fewer jobs, higher prices for mail delivery, and less service in Black communities.
