This lawsuit comes after Harvard announced it would not comply with the administration's requests to limit campus activism.
In a letter dated April 11, the Trump administration called for extensive government and leadership reforms at Harvard and changes to its admissions policies. They also requested that the university review its approach to diversity on campus and cease recognizing certain student clubs.
In its lawsuit, Harvard described the funding freeze as "arbitrary and capricious," arguing that it violates the university's First Amendment rights and contravenes the statutory provisions of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act.
