as posted by the channelWe begin tonight with disturbing body camera footage out of Decatur, Alabama -- footage that has sparked outrage, pain, and serious questions about how police respond to mental health emergencies, especially in Black communities.
This is John Daniel Scott Jr., a 39-year-old community mentor who, according to his loved ones, gave his life to helping others.
The bodycam video released is nearly 30 minutes long, and for the first 15 or so minutes, the interaction between Scott and the officers was civil. The officers told Scott his options were to go to the hospital or jail. That's when the situation shifted.
Early the next morning -- Scott was dead!
His family and the community are demanding answers and accountability. The Madison County Sheriff's Office is now leading the investigation, and the Decatur Police Department says it's reviewing the case.
Civil Rights Attorney-- Lee Merritt, who is representing the Scott family spoke with Roland Martin during Friday's edition of Roland Martin Unfiltered to discuss this senseless tragedy.
