New statistics from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that more than 300,000 Black women have left the labor force in the last 3 months. This shocking yet unsurprising data highlights how African American women have been rocked by attacks on DEI, federal job cuts, civic burnout, the continued fall out from COVID-19 and sooo much more.
Most of these cuts are the result of Trump’s DEI rollbacks and DOGE job cuts, seeing as the public sector like education and health – all areas where Black women were more represented than any other industries.
Anna Gifty, author of The Double Tax: How Women of Color are Overcharged and Underpaid and a PhD candidate at Harvard Kennedy School studying public policy and economics joined Black Star Network contributors, Jamira Burley and Brea Baker to deconstruct the crisis Black women are facing.
