Barack Obama returned to Chicago for the opening of the Obama Presidential Center, an $850 million campus built on the South Side where he says he found his purpose, faith, community, and family. Michelle Obama praised his resilience through the racism, lies, and pressure he faced as the first Black president. Obama said the Center was designed to be a vibrant living celebration of community, not a lifeless mausoleum. Roland Martin and the panel then turned to the larger question: what role Obama and Michelle can still play as public servants for Black communities, democracy, and the country’s unfinished work.
