Texas Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett challenged Republicans over what she described as Congress’s misplaced priorities. She argued that GOP lawmakers are using transgender children as a political issue ahead of the midterms while refusing to address gun violence, youth mental health, disease outbreaks, food safety, affordability, research cuts and other problems affecting American families.

Crockett said lawmakers claiming to protect children are ignoring the threats actually harming them. She cited gun violence, suicide risks among transgender and non-binary youth, measles, tuberculosis, whooping cough, HIV increases and cuts to cancer research. She also mocked the country’s worsening food-safety concerns, saying Republicans had put Americans in a “pooy situation.”

Roland Martin framed the clip as an example of Congress spending more time fueling political fights than addressing the issues families are actually facing. The RMU panel said Republicans are manufacturing culture-war “red meat” to energize their base before the midterms while avoiding affordability, housing, public health and other pressing concerns.
