Scott Colom says Mississippi is “not a lost cause. It's a betrayed cause.”
Running for U.S. Senate against incumbent Cindy Hyde-Smith, Colom argues that Democrats have ignored Mississippi and other Southern states for too long. He says the path to victory is built through organizing, rural outreach, door knocking, digital targeting, and connecting policy directly to what voters are experiencing with health care, wages, food costs, farming, and corruption.
Roland Martin repeatedly centers the Black vote. Mississippi is 38% African-American, and Roland argues that 70% to 85% Black turnout could change the entire race. The interview also cites a Data for Progress poll showing Colom at 40%, Hyde-Smith at 40%, independent Ty Pinkins at 13%, and 7% unsure or refusing.
The larger fight is over investment. Colom says national Democrats have treated Mississippi as unwinnable instead of building the infrastructure needed to compete. Roland says that even when an investment does not produce an immediate win, it can build the organizing power needed for 2028, 2030, and 2032.

Black Star Network Partner: Chapter
Chapter and its affiliates are not connected with or endorsed by any government entity or the federal Medicare program. Chapter Advisory, LLC represents Medicare Advantage HMO, PPO, and PFFS organizations and stand alone prescription drug plans that have a Medicare contract. Enrollment depends on the plan’s contract renewal. While we have a database of every Medicare plan nationwide and can help you to search among all plans, we have contracts with many but not all plans. As a result, we do not offer every plan available in your area. Currently we represent 50 organizations which offer 18,160 products nationwide. We search and recommend all plans, even those we don’t directly offer. You can contact a licensed Chapter agent to find out the number of products available in your specific area. Please contact Medicare.gov, 1-800-Medicare, or your local State Health Insurance Program (SHIP) to get information on all of your options
