Congresswoman Ayanna Pressley honored the life of Pierre Damas Bel, a 20-year-old Haitian college student, soccer player, and aspiring doctor whose future was cut short after the Trump administration forced him onto electronic monitoring and threatened deportation.

On the House floor, Pressley said Trump’s termination of Haiti TPS robbed Pierre of his humanity, stripped him of his dignity, and inflicted mental trauma that became too much for him to bear. She said Pierre should be alive today and warned that Trump’s attacks on Haitian communities are taking a devastating psychological and emotional toll.

Roland Martin and his guests did not soften the blame. Roland directly said Pierre’s death is because of Donald Trump, Stephen Miller, and their policies. Avis Jones-DeWeever called the treatment of Haitians cruel and evil, especially as the administration targets communities of color while welcoming white South Africans. Shonda urged Black people to protect their joy and each other, while Greg Carr called for collective resistance and accountability.

Pressley also made clear that the House has already passed legislation to extend TPS for Haiti and said the Senate must follow suit without delay. Pierre Damas Bel’s death is not an abstraction. It is the human cost of anti-Black, anti-immigrant cruelty.
