Note: Please don't replicate this experiment if you live in an area where possession of firearm ammunition or powder propellant is illegal. Please wear safety glasses and have a fire extinguisher handy. Only perform the experiment in a well-ventilated area. If you are under 18, please conduct this experiment under the supervision of an adult.
You can replicate this experiment by using the propellent from 20 .22LR rifle rounds. Use pilers to separate the bullet from the casing. Dump the power into a 1.5 oz shot glass and properly dispose of the shell casing and bullet.
Wrap the top of the shot glass in aluminum foil. Tape the foil down using clear packing tape. Place a hole in the top of the foil using a pencil.
Drop a match into the hole and remove your hand.
