The short answer is that yes, the US Navy is allowing sailors to join without a GED as long as they get a 50 or above on their ASVAB. But that doesn't necessarily mean that we are going to war. Isolationism is like building the walls of your fortress so high that you can't see the danger on the other side. If the democracies of the world don't give Ukraine the weapons it needs to fight Russia, China will take that as a signal that it can invade Taiwan and nobody will stop them.
If that happens, the US Navy will be used sooner than you think.
